Friday the 13th

Well readers,

It has been a trying week. Let us recap for Friday the 13th.
A side note: I like Friday the 13th.

First hot plate item: North Korea - what do they think they are doing?

The United States believes North Korea attempted to detonate a nuclear device but that "something went wrong," and the blast was relatively small, a U.S. government official said Tuesday. The official confirmed North Korea informed the Chinese government before the test that it would involve a four-kiloton nuclear device, a small explosion compared with the 15-kiloton nuclear tests that India and Pakistan conducted in 1998.
Also, an unnamed North Korean diplomat admitted the test was smaller than expected, the South Korean newspaper Hankyoreh reported Tuesday.
Oct. 8, for example, marks the anniversary of Kim Jong Il's ascension as head of the Workers' Party of Korea in 1997. Too much for this week in North Korea; nuclear bomb tests, threats, and the anniversary.

Well, regardless of size, the missile could still hit the U.S. or an Ally. My two cents is that the U.S. should have let MacArther do his job (1951-1953) and push the North back past the Yalu river! We would not be dealing with this today. The sanctions are a great idea, but the fact that the U.S. vows not to be intimidated by North Korea's threats is crucial.

Second on the plate: Monday night's show at Madison Square Garden, Barbara Streisand effortlessly crooned through a select repertoire of the hits she's amassed during her four-decade-plus career. But night's most riveting moment came during what was perhaps the only unscripted and truly uncomfortable episode in the three-hour show.
There was Streisand, enduring a smattering of very loud jeers as she and "George Bush" a celebrity impersonator muddled through a skit that portrayed the president as a bumbling idiot.
Though most of the crowd offered polite applause during the slightly humorous routine, it got a bit too long, especially for a few in the audience who just wanted to hear Streisand sing like she had been doing for the past hour.

"Come on, be polite!" the well-known liberal implored during the sketch as she and "Bush" exchanged zingers. But one heckler wouldn't let up. And finally, Streisand let him have it.
"Shut the F... up!" Streisand bellowed, With that one F-word, the jeers ended. And the message was delivered no one gets away with trying to upstage Barbra Streisand, especially not in her hometown.

Well for Conerctgoers they don't care about the politics of a singer, they care about hearing the singers voice. This goes for actors as well. Whatever the art might be, just because you became famous does not give you a platform on which to spat your views. If you want to run for office, then run for office. If not, in the words of Barbara Streisand - Shut the FUCK up.

That is it for this week - there is soooo much more I could rant about, but I will cut it short for sake of time. Have a great weekend.
